Pillar candles
Use the following material to make a Thanksgiving pillar candle centerpiece:
•Five pillar candles in fall colors
•Artificial or fresh fall leaf branches
•Berries in any color
Arrange the pillar candles on a platter. Make them various heights
by adding risers to the bottom of the candles. One may use cans, bowls,
or blocks of wood. Tuck the leaves between the bowls then decorate with
a few branches of fall berries.
Create your own garnished pillar candle. The materials needed are easily
obtained:
•Bowl container
•Pillar (white works well)
•9-12 small lemons or tangerines
•7-10 small artichokes or limes
Place the pillar in the center of the bowl. Secure it with florist putty
or melt candle wax and affix it to the bowl. Make two rows of fruit
and/or vegetables around the candle. Small items work the best.
Making a pillar is easy. One can make them using cans and square or
rectangular boxes to create the shapes. First melt the wax in a double
boiler then add colors or fragrances to the melted wax. Then drill a
hole through the bottom of your mold and thread the wick through the
hole. Tie the wick to a small stick that is lying across the top of
the mold to ensure the wick stands straight up in the mold. Secure the
wick at the bottom with a wick screw and apply mold sealer wax around
the screw to make sure there are no leaks. Pour in the molten wax until
about one-half inch from the top. When cooled, remove from the mold
and enjoy.
